The Musical Theatre program at Santa Susana High School of the Arts allows students to develop and further their knowledge and training of singing, dancing and acting techniques, as well as self discipline and a professional attitude needed for college and work in the entertainment industry.  Many SSHS graduates have continued their theatre education in many prestigious universities and private institutions such as PACE, Julliard, NYU, TISH, AMDA, FIDM, Syracuse University, Boston Conservatory (to name a few) and some finding success in the professional entertainment industry with television and film, private theatre companies and Broadway.  There is also opportunity to certificate and graduate with high honors in Musical Theatre in addition to the diploma.

Auditions for incoming students will take place LIVE March 9th, 2024. 

The Process

Singing, acting and dance auditions for musical theatre will be live. There may be some callbacks which would happen live.

​Your audition material is a key component of your audition.  Please read the information below carefully so that you are fully prepared. 


SSHS Musical Theatre Auditions 2023-2024
The auditions are for both incoming and returning students for classes beginning in Fall 2024.

Prior to auditioning, please fill out this Google Form and join the Auditions Remind (text @sshsau to 81010) 
If you are auditioning for more than one discipline, please check the boxes for all the departments you are auditioning for.

Please carefully read through the audition elements required for Musical Theatre. Please include an introduction and demonstrate the necessary skill sets. 

Example: State, “Hello, my name is ______ and I will be in ______grade. I am auditioning for ______.”

Musical Theatre - Please include the following elements in your audition. Include an introduction.

  1. Monologue
    1. A one minute monologue of your choice.
  2. Solo song
    1. ​A one minute Musical Theatre vocal audition of your choice, with karaoke. 
  3. Dance audition
    1. Prepare for your dance audition

    2. Sign up for a live audition slot LINK
    3. Please arrive in the appropriate attire to dance in and bring your own water.

NOTE: Each audition should be continuous and include all the elements. Please make sure to state what the title of the song and what the monologue is from. You may take a moment between sections but please keep it continuous as we will be looking at how you transition from one element to another. Each audition should not exceed three minutes.

Audition Requirements:

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes early to sign in and prepare
  • Choose a Broadway song that fits your range and vocal abilities (45+ Seconds)
    • A CD/IPod -or- YouTube link- used as an accompaniment
    • No a cappella or live accompaniment
    • Must be appropriate material
  • One memorized monologue (approx.. one minute long)
    • Suggested- monologue book/online/play
    • Looking for strong characterization, creativity as well as an understanding of the material
    • Be your most professional, enthusiastic, and creative self.  HAVE FUN!​

  • Prepare the Musical Theatre/Show Choir Audition dance (videos will be posted Feb. 24th)​

Show Choir and Musical Theatre Dance Auditions will occur March 9th. Time: 8:00am-9:00am
​Musical Theatre Vocal and Acting Auditons will occur March 9th.
